Triskaidekaphobia? Friggatriskaidekaphobia? Not me….

This is the thirteenth post that I have written for this blog. So, I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity for me to tell you how I feel about the number thirteen.

According to Wikipedia, Triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number thirteen, and Friggatriskaidekaphobia is the fear of Friday the thirteenth. I will be the first to admit that there are some things that I do fear-spiders come to mind. However, the number thirteen and Friday the thirteenth do not frighten me.

The number thirteen and I go way back…..I was born at 6:13 A.M. on Friday the 13th. I weighed in at 6 pounds and….you guessed it, 13 ounces. The number thirteen was destined to be lucky for me.

My affinity for the number thirteen became set in stone when I met the man of my dreams and he was also born on the thirteenth. So, as mutual fans of the number thirteen, we were married on the thirteenth. To be honest, I think my husband’s choice of this day may have had more to do with the fact that he would only be required to remember the month of our anniversary and not the day also….

As the birth of our first child approached we were excited at the possibility that our children might follow suit. When I arrived at the hospital, in labor, on the evening of the 12th, I was sure my first child would be born on the 13th! Unfortunately, my little daughter was impatient to make her entrance and was born at 10:22 P.M. on the 12th……

So, I am not afraid of the number thirteen or Friday the 13th. As a loyal fan of the number thirteen, I am looking forward to the new year. Friday the 13th of September, 2013 will be my 30th anniversary……I am positive that it will be a very lucky day!

Sincerely,

Sandra

P.S. My favorite author Jason F. Wright’s newest book is “The 13th Day of Christmas”. As you might guess, I was VERY excited when he told me what the title would be. I was even more excited after I read it and found it to be such a beautiful, heartwarming and inspiring story about the true meaning of Christmas. Pick up a copy and read it with your family this Christmas. You may decide that thirteen is your lucky number too…..

  1. Speaking as the impatient little daughter, I would just like to say that 12 is a great number!(lol) However, 2 of the most important people in the world to me were born on the 13th, so it’s a pretty good number too. ; ) Besides, I’m not as superstitious as grandma…heh heh heh
